SAIL AWAY MOTHERFUCKERS

Ayyeee, so sorry to keep you waiting [insert my day dream of hundreds of loyal fans waiting to read my thoughts daily here] the Nelsonville Music Festival was this weekend and it was such an incredible time! I will devote an entire post and more on just how fantastic it was once I get my pictures developed!

In the meantime lets focus on this rad bitch.

Yo-Landi Vi$$er of Die Antwoord. An amazing and unique hip-hop group that doesn't give a fuck. When I first read about them on Pitchfork about a year ago I wasn't a believer. I couldn't tell if their "yea we're ghetto and crunk and hott" vibe was all a fame seeking act or the real thing. I have since been proven wrong (obviously). Which is why I was so pumped to see their article in I-D and inspired to blog away about them.

Even though I love their music (their original version of $o$ keeps me uber-motivated even at my soul-sucking corporate Chipotle job) its the attitude that really sells me. Especiallu Yo-Landi's. As I said before, she's so rad. Seriously. I don't really know what the social mental on female performers in South Africa is but as far as America goes we all know the story on the female perspective and expectations. Too bad Yo-Landi doesn't give a fuck, right?? Theres no falling and sub-coming to the styling wishes of your record label, no concern about a clean public image,
Her style is her own and I love it. I've never seen anyone pull of the ghetto fab look quite like her.

Is she usually wearing half a baggy shirt? Yes. Are her pants always tight and shiney? Yes. Does she have a partially shaved head? Does she look hot? Always.

Do your self a favor and check out all the videos you can of them and take a few life and fashion notes from Die Antwoord. Also you must watch their short film, umshini-wam. Its so weird and surreal and lovely. I would expect nothing less from the  Harmony Korine Die Antwoord combo.

(she even looks hot on the toilet!)
And to wrap it up lets take some time to compare cat suits.

tacky.

rad.

I believe we have an obvious winner.

EXCESS EUPHORIA

I wish I weren't so brain dead from Thursday. The show at The Union was so great. Good friends Marty and Charlie played an awesome debut Dawgtooth show, and The Bummers, Weird Science, and Mutual Benefit were fantastic as per usual. However, following a day into night into next day party with a double dose of work is never the most fun thing to do.
The fact that I need both hands to count how many times this has happened to me is telling I'm sure and probably means I need some sort of life reflection time or something. But I have completely and successfully mastered the term "work hard, play hard".
All the good weather vibes perpetuated Thursday into yet another 24 hour dancing, friend filled party/extravaganza.  Inspired by sunshine, friends, and by JC Jeans & Clothes I decided to wear something that wasnt black.

Mona Johannesson

Sweater//shorts//bag from New-to-You (duh). Ray Ban brand glasses that I got in Austin.

These fabulous boots were found in Columbus at Rag-o-Roma and I think they complete a part of my soul.

Also lets take some much needed time to gush about how down right incredible my friends are. I mean seriously though, all cheesy aside. I have some damn good friends. All with such beautiful, unique personalities and styles. None of those frantic 7 am "ugh I can only wear my skirt if you wear yours!!" kinda phone calls. (Did anyone else frequently get those in high school??).

GLOOM

In keeping with my "I wish I was a Vampire" look from winter all black was the way to go today.

Shirt from a local clothing exchange//Jeans by Guess thrifted from New-to-You.

Heels thrifted from Re-Use.

LOVE the lace detail.

Maybe its the constant stream of Bauhaus and The Black Angels coming from my computer, or the recent talk of starting a witch's coven with my best girlfriends (it would work out much better than it did for Nacy Downs, I promise), or the fact that its been raining for 2 weeks straight here in Athens, but I can't seem to get out of my gloomy, doomy, winter funk.

Even dying my hair from black to silver blond, the fast approaching arrivals of Nelsonville Music Festival/Bonnaroo, and all the awesome local shows laced with copious amounts of dancing, friends, uppers, weed, and alcohol that have been happening this month (checkout  SpooktoberMr. Leg, to name a few) can't get me excited for summer.
Despite the beautiful summer issues of Pop, i-D, and Nylon that are screaming "bright! neon! sunshine!" up at me from my desk I'm not convinced that this rainy, don't-get-too-excited-its-still-not-warm-enough-to-forget-your-jacket type weather will ever go away.

Oh well though, I'll just continue to lay around and mope. Being gloomy is so much easier than being cheerful anyway.

America?

Channeling Kirsten Dunst in Dick today in response to Osama's supposed death.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Osama wasn't the only terrorist in the world, and the death of al Qaedas leader isn't going to sit well with the rest of the group. I believe the term "backlash" is the word I'm looking for here. So, sorry to all the frat bros, country hicks, and ignorant people alike while Osama's death is nothing to ignore your repeated chants of "USA!, USA!" are as pointless as they are annoying.

Besides I've seen one too many episodes of The X-Files to take this news without a grain of salt Scully and Mulder would be disappointed with all of you
I'm sure this is all one big conspiracy involving Bin Laden having Obamas real birth certificate proving he really is a Muslim, which is why we finally had to kill him. Or aliens abducted Bin Landen to collaborate and combine alien and terrorist forces to finally take down us Americans! Or something like that.

I usually don't care much about politics but this dress I thrifted from Rag-O-Roma  in Columbus yesterday was too perfect not to wear today.

Sketchers boots, found at a clothing exchange here in Athens OH. (SO in love with them)
Goody's clip.

All together now.

TASTE OF CINDY

I heard the only way to be famous was to have a TUMBLR.

But I couldn't figure it out so this blog will have to do.

So time for my cliche "first post" monologue.

I'm new to this game so my knowledge of actual designers is small but growing as well as my passion for a career in fashion. But long story short I love fashion, its such an incredible form of art and self expression. Its your chance to say "this is me and if you don't like it kiss my ass".  And I'm not talking your run of the mill on top of the current trends and designers type fashion. No no. I'm talking DIY, ahead of the curve, starting trends, digging for golden gems at your local thrift store, one mans trash is anothers treasure type fashion.

I like to party and experiment with drugs, I have annoyingly high expectations for music and literally don't give a fuck if the average joe of the street likes my outfit, and treat my outfit like a new piece of art for everyday.
So if mildly excessive drug use, obscure and wacky fashions aren't our thing you're reading the wrong blog.
But hey that's me, and if you don't like it you can kiss my ass, right?

I bought about 20 pounds of new clothes this weekend at multiple thrift stores/clothing's exchanges. I will gush about those in my next post. For now here is some Death Grips, a new hip hop project by Zach Hill that I cannot get enough of and that will hopefully blow your little minds as much as it did mine.
